It would be a homecoming for the speedy center and solid penalty killer who played for Ohio State.

Speedy new addition is changing the Islanders’ dynamic

It was a simple addition of necessity, but, just as the Islanders preached, they only needed a little push to get things back on track.

So no, Tanner Fritz joining the club after his call-up from AHL Bridgeport on Thursday was not a game-changer. But by replacing Valtteri Filppula, out four weeks with an apparent left-shoulder injury, Fritz helped the Islanders become marginally faster. That speed helped them sweep the weekend back-to-back over the Flyers and Coyotes, and allowed them to come into Tuesday night’s matchup against John Tortorella’s desperate Blue Jackets with some confidence.

More importantly, the Isles are just one point behind the Capitals for first place in the Metropolitan Division with six games remaining in the regular season, giving a much-needed cushion below them in the standings as they focus on getting things solidified before the postseason.

“Everyone is buying in here,” Fritz said after Sunday’s game, with the team using Monday as a travel day. “You can see it in the room. You can see that confidence breeds winning. It’s fun to be a part of. This is the best time to be playing, big playoff push. So hopefully we can keep it rolling.”
"There’s unfinished business," coach Barry Trotz said.

#Isles announce Tanner Fritz (hand) is out 6-8 weeks.

Wow, even worse than what Staple reported

                https://twitter.com/AGrossNewsday/st...350701056?s=19

#Isles Lou Lamoriello says Tanner Fritz had surgery to remove a blood clot from his hand yesterday and will miss 6-8 weeks. Really tough break from.

Tough break. Guy came up here and worked his ass off and was effective.
The object is to win. Not just to compete, but to win.

I feel real bad for him. However the good news for him is that he has caught Barry's eye which bodes well for him next year. Get better kid.
