First the 13 game road trip, which seemed manageable but clearly the team was worn down at the end, the way they played starting with the 3rd period of the Minnesota game was not this group. But OK, it was only 4 games in a long season, and we were home to open a new building, I expected a jump start from that. Then this Covid outbreak happened, and yes it is likely going to sink our season. By the team everyone (except Pulock and naybe Brock) gets healthy there is a good chance we are too far out of it. What I would like to see is us play good solid Trotz hockey after the team gets back together. Then what happens, happens as far as the playoffs. And if we don't make it we just re-set for next season.

This team's window should not be closed by next season. As currently constituted we have about $12.6 in cap space for next year, with a few players to sign but no one who will break the bank

UFA - it is possible none these are back
    Clutter
    Parise
    Hickey
    Chara
    Greene

RFA - no one will break the bank, not even Dobson
    Bellows
    Dobson
    Salo
    Aho
    Hutton

We should have some cap space to actually bring in a mid range free agent or take some salary back in a trade.
    We so need goal scoring.

We do, but it's strange that EVERYONE (except Brock and to some degree Wahlstrom) has been ice cold. The history of players like Palmieri, Bailey, Parise, Beau, and a few others says that SOMEONE should be scoring, even if not all at the same time. Before the season started, to me the beauty of this team was the scoring depth. No sure fire sniper, but we were not replying on 1 or 2 guys for all the goals. There should be scoring up and down the lineup.
"There’s unfinished business," coach Barry Trotz said.

We need a sniper Mark. It’s what will put us over the top. You have to maximize your players and our best forward needs a trigger man. It will make a SIGNIFICANT difference.

        • After a COVID-19 outbreak that has sidelined seven Islanders, Barry Trotz sounds, at best, hesitant about the NHL's participation in the Winter Olympics.

                    • Like this year’s Islanders, the 2002-03 team started terribly, earning just 11 points in their first 17 games -- and they still made the playoffs.

                      • Derek King got the kind of homecoming he was looking for. New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson scored with 2.3 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, but Patrick Kane scored the lone goal in a shootout to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-2 win Sunday at UBS Arena. King, the Blackhawks coach, played 11 seasons for the Islanders. Jonathan Toews and Seth Jones tried to ...
