For longevity sake of keeping this franchise in the future would be so good for this organization. And to be honest if Kadri has signed with us that would basically say the stigma and the stench from this franchise from yesteryear would be gone!

Not the guy I want either George but I see this signing as bigger than just what I want. It means in the future you are in contention to sign the really big fish.
You won’t have the money to sign the big fish. That’s the issue.

I realize that but how many big fishes have we lost? It has to start somewhere. Kadri is high profile....not a big fish but still high enough that maybe the big fish will start to pick us. We have been washing off 30 years of failure in the last 5 or 6 years. We are getting closer to getting that fish. But you can't keep turning away players like Kadri hoping that next year we will land the big fish. I hate to say this but in the last 50 years I don't ever recall a big fish picking us?

If there were any big fish that we could sign I would agree with you. But there aren't any FAs looking to come here.

Kadri made 4.5 mil a yr in his last contract. We could probably get him for 7.5 or less. Bailey has 2 more yrs and then we hopefully get his 5 mil back to use.

He certainly won't be as bad as this player, but he will be to some degree (Andrew Ladd). That contract became a noose around our neck. Kadri could become that as well.

I prefer keeping my big money contracts to guys that are worth it. I don't think he will be, but I hope I'm wrong.

          • More smoke to the fire. Sounds like Dobson is signed as well. It will be interesting to see who is moved out.

I'm talking about next season and beyond. Remember, Barzal needs to re-sign. After he re-signs, we won't have any money to sign a big fish.

              • This Hockey News article makes a decent case for Kadri getting in the 7 range. It was written before the playoffs and the Cup win but I still think they make a good case

With a couple of teams bidding for him, I'd say he gets $8 to $8.5M per season.

                  • So I'm seeing a bunch of fake insiders posting the same stuff about Kadri to the Isles being imminent.

It's starting to make me think this might be a huge dupe.

These are my thoughts too, I don't like the money he's going to get and tied up with the team..

                      • We are getting ahead of ourselves. We have no idea what the contract will look like. After he did not sign the first day or 2 of free agency, it is possible he is going to sign a 1 or 2 year cheaper deal and then try again when the cap goes up.

I do not see it being likely that we give him 6 or 7 years, or $7 or $8 million. Clearly no one else did.

I am honestly still skeptical that Lou even signed him.

                            Yes, that too!

No way would he sign a 1 or 2 year deal. That would be insane of him. He is 32 years old and any decent agent is going to tell him that the likelihood that he has tapped out of his maximum production this past season is super likely. He'd be a dumbass if he did that.

And apparently there are still 3 teams being very interested in him. Detroit being another one and they have a lot of cap room.

After winning a cup he probably does not want to go to a rebuilding organization like Detroit.
