  • 2022 Off Season

A bizarre and frustrating season that ended a lot sooner than any of us expected going in.

This will be an interesting off season. There should be lots to discuss.

First up is the draft lottery on May 10.

Barry said in his post game presser - "It was a bizarre season". Funny how you chose that word.

I know this is weird but after 3 long playoff runs I'm looking forward to getting out in the yard and doing some work. Instead of being stuck in watching hockey all day and night.

And it looks like we have slotted in to number 12 spot............didn't we draft some kid named Noah in that spot?

We have a 2.6% chance to move into the # 3 pick and a 1.7% chance at the # 4 pick and a 5.1% chance to move down to # 14 spot.

            Interesting comments from Cooper.

In March, Barry Trotz said Lightning coach Jon Cooper saw similarities between this year’s Islanders and his Lightning in 2017.
Cooper: "I don’t believe if it goes off the rails one year that there’s a fundamental change and you blow things up.”

Chara says he has not made a decision on future plans. He just wants to go home now and be with his family and be a dad. And then he’ll start thinking about what he wants to do next.

We will be back rested, without a beginning long road trip, An NHL which now have fair rules in place for all teams for the Oct-Nov covid outbreak next year, & maybe a different player or 2 for our roster, would not be surprised to see either Chara or Green back next year. Not both but one of them to help as a 7/ part-time 6th defenseman. We all saw Chara get handshakes fro the lighting and the ref's last night but come sept who know who wants to come back.

Mat Barzal is eligible to sign a long term extension this summer. He spoke about how he’d like to stay here for his whole career, mentioning some of his favorite athletes who have done the same — like Jordan, Crosby and Patrick Kane. Like many, he doesn’t count MJ’s time in DC 😂

Varlamov: “We went through hell this season. But it’s not an excuse for not making the playoffs.”
Adds he was very happy to not be traded at deadline. Wants to be an Islanders next season to finish contract.

Semyon Varlamov says he was relieved to stay with the Islanders after the trade deadline and wants to return next season. Of course he has somewhat of a say in that with a partial no-trade clause
