As long as there isn't a no trade this is all good

Brassard did not get a no-move clause.

Damn the Isles Twitter corsi stalwarts don't like this at all.

At $1.2 million for 1 year there isn't much risk here. He plugs a hole, and if at some point this season they decide Koivula is ready then Brassard can be traded (assuming there isn't any NTC) or waived (since he doesn't have a no move).

He's only 31, a resurgence would not be a big shock.

Not my first choice, but its a decent contract and may fit in well with Trott's defensive system.

So replace Lehner and Flip for Varly and Brassard.........still looks like 103 point team to me. One year more experienced and a year without having to learn Trotz system. Who knows could we be better. Is that even possible or did we max out last year?

For the price, term and our team need. Not too bad of a signing at all. Pretty much him or Boyle was about the best we were going to do at this time of year.

"I had a rough season last year, bouncing around teams. I met with Lou and Barry a few weeks back in New York, and when I looked back on everything, I thought it was the best opportunity for me to be successful to win some games and to come back to my old self,'' Brassard said.

Brassard said, "I know I can help this team." Said he had other options as a free agent but he has been impressed with #Isles core of players.

I think all things considered, this is a very good move.

Now we have pretty much every roster hole filled with capable NHL veterans before we have to dip into call ups.

Obviously, we all hope Koivula steps up and takes that 3rd line center spot, but this allows him to marinate down in the AHL for another year, which is a good thing.

Also, it buys Lou and his staff more time to determine whether or not he's even up to that task, or if they'll have to address that role from outside the organization.

Now we wait to see if a top notch forward shakes lose from the high end RFA crop.

Good post, breaks it all down and keeps hope alive that a bigger move is is possible.
The object is to win. Not just to compete, but to win.

OMG I just fell off my chair on to the floor. Has a free agent ever said these words before? "I thought it was the best opportunity for me to be successful to win some games". I'm serious I not sure I have heard that from a player before? Maybe back in the 70's or 80's.
