Arthur Staple ‏@StapeNewsday #Isles have signed C Stephen Gionta to a 2-way contract and recalled him from BPT.
I guess Casey is going to be out for a while. It is crazy that we have being going with NO extra skaters.

Why not bring up one of the kids? We have plenty of options for centers on the current team.

The kids are dal Colle and Ho-Sang. There is no one else. From what I have seen and read I agree with not bringing up Ho-Sang. I might give dal Colle a shot but only if he would be on the ice. If they are bringing Gionta up as insurance and he is going to be a healthy scratch then I agree with leaving dal Colle down in Bridgeport.

        On the other hand....

Arthur Staple ‏@StapeNewsday Believe Gionta recall is a precaution in case Tavares can't play on Friday. 91 had maintenance day today, appeared to hurt hand/wrist Tues.

They have other people capable of playing center. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. On one hand, I would love to see JHS or MDC up in the NHL, on the other hand, I want them as far away from Fred Flinstone as humanly possible. The fact that they "don't know" on JT on Wednesday and the next game is Friday is concerning, hope it isn't serious.

We can't use any winger who plays center because we won last game and Jack doesn't want to break up that winning formula

Besides I thought Bernier was tearing it up with the Tigers right now so why not him?

More proof Jack is a qualified to coach in the NHL.

Jack Capuano said the 33-year-old center, who was inactive Friday, is “one of those guys that does things the right way. Unfortunately, he got the injury during training camp. He probably could have been in our opening night lineup.”

He's not qualified to coach high school hockey, as you need to be certified as various levels and I am not sure he would pass the tests.

The guy may be a midget height-wise, but he is stacked with muscle.

                      Gionta is a pro.

The type of player a coach LOVES - because he knows how to play within a prescribed system. Makes few mistakes. Can't score goals. However, chances are when he is on the ice - your team will not give up a goal. Prototypical 4th line player in terms of what he can bring - I assume he kills penalties too. Think of him as a pitcher who can "eat innings"

You don't send Gionta down to bring up Ho-Sang or Dal Colle - who need to play a second line shift. If Ho-Sang and Dal Colle can learn to play responsible defensive hockey like Stephen Gionta can - then they will be important NHL players.....and Stephen would be in Bridgeport. Gionta would be a great "Black Ace" for us. His game would be more useful in a playoff series in a shutdown role then during the regular season.

He certainly doesn't want to leave the Tri-state area, does he? If he is what he was last year, it's a perfectly reasonable signing. Good minor-leaguer who can fill in when injuries mount.

I like this - so long as he plays most of his games in Bridgeport. Injury replacement guy - not to take a spot earmarked for someone like JHS or Barzal

I'm hoping Garth is finally past doing things like that and will probably be exactly what he was last year. I don't care if a guy makes good money in the AHL. Good for him.
