Sharks' Torres suspended 41 games for preseason hit

NEW YORK – San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres has been suspended for 41 games, without pay, for interference and an illegal check to the head against Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg during a preseason game in Anaheim on Saturday, Oct. 3, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 12:45 of the first period. Torres was assessed a match penalty for illegal check to the head.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Torres will forfeit $440,860.29. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Brutal hit; with his history it had to be a long suspension. But I am surprised it is this long.

Sharks name Pavelski captain; Thornton alternate

The San Jose Sharks named forward Joe Pavelski the ninth captain in their history Monday.
"Obviously, it's a huge honor. I'm excited to have an opportunity like this," Pavelski told the Sharks radio network. "It means a lot, but it really can't change anything about the player I am or what my game is going to be like. It's got to keep put the work in, try to get better every day, and, you know, perform. So, it's exciting."

41 games and it isn't enough. This jackass needs to be run out of hockey for good.

I am not sure any of these teams can take on his salary but Marleau is willing to be traded to 3 teams. Of course one of them has to be the Rangers

Sharks' Marleau would look favourably on a trade
Of all the Patrick Marleau trade rumours and reports - and there have been many over the years - the latest comes with a twist.
This time, the 36-year-old Sharks' forward appears to be driving the bus that could be headed out of San Jose. Multiple sources tell TSN that as early as training camp, certainly by the start of the regular season, Marleau indicated to the Sharks that he would look favourably on a trade to an approved team.
Marleau has full no-trade and no-move clauses.
The Marleau story picked up steam Tuesday when CSNBayarea.com's Kevin Kurz reported prior to the San Jose-New York Islanders game that the 19-year Shark is prepared to waive his no-trade clause to go to three teams: Anaheim, Los Angeles and the New York Rangers.

Defenseman to remain with San Jose through 2024-25 season

Defenseman Brent Burns signed an eight-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

He is a big man. They usually slow down quicker. Price of keeping your stars I guess is to now know the last 3 to 4 years the player could garbage.

I thought they were going to tear it down 2 years ago, but now for sure. I guess not.

It appears they had not, but now Thornton has signed a 1 year deal.

As @KKurzNBCS first reported, Joe Thornton intends to return to SJ. Terms are set but nothing signed yet. One year deal. At least $6M.

I wonder if this is the end for him?

Joe Thornton’s injury is to his right MCL. He is out at least “several weeks,” per Doug Wilson. Team waiting for results of MRI.
